Charilaos Pappas (l.) takes the plaudits after nabbing a late winner for 1860 in Bielefeld
Defeat for Arminia, three points for Düsseldorf
A shock home defeat for leaders Bielefeld, but Düsseldorf grab a vital late winner to keep them right in the mix at the top. Ahlen and Paderborn share the spoils in a goalless encounter. The Friday action.
Arminia Bielefeld - TSV 1860 München 0-1 (0-0)
League leaders Bielefeld suffered an unexpected blow, going down at home to struggling 1860 München. Midfielder Charilaos Pappas scored the only goal of the game in the 82nd minute, just three minutes after coming off the visitors' bench.
In an evenly-balanced first half of few highlights, the closest either side came was when a header from Michael Lamey following a free kick pulled a great save out 1860 keeper Gabor Kiraly.
Supersub seals it
Arminia appeared to be slowly warming to their task after the restart and the momentum looked to be swinging firmly in their favour when TSV's Stefan Aigner was sent off against his former club for a second bookable offence with 20 minutes to go.
Instead however, it was ten-man 1860 who sealed the points when Pappas, fresh into the action, rounded off a breakaway by slipping around home keeper Dennis Eilhof and planting the ball in the net from a tight angle.
Arminia remain top for the moment, but both Kaiserslautern and St. Pauli have the chance to overtake them by the end of matchday 13. For TSV, the welcome three points puts a bit of light between themselves and the drop zone.
Line-ups:
Bielefeld: Eilhoff - Lamey, Mijatovic, Kucera, Feick - Kauf - Federico, D. Halfar - Delura (Fort, 56'), Janjic - Katongo (Guela, 71')
1860: Kiraly - Rukavina, Felhi, Ghvinianidze, Holebas - Ludwig (C. Pappas, 79'), Ignjovski - Aigner, Rösler, Marcos Antonio - Lauth (D. Stahl, 88')
Attendance: 18,000
Fortuna Düsseldorf - Energie Cottbus 1-0 (0-0)
Fortuna Düsseldorf left it late but deservedly took the points in a game which they dominated almost from start to finish.
After a goalless first half in which the home side had huffed and puffed without finding the compusure to break through a compact Enerige defence, it was the visitors who went in front in the 57th minute, Jula picking up a stray header and firing home into the left corner from eleven metres out.
Fortuna were level seven minutes later, substitute Zoundi making his presence felt immediately, diverting a corner to the unmarked Harnik, who netted with ease from close range.
With both sides seemingly running out of steam, Düsseldorf had enough in reserve to hit the guests on the break with five minutes remaining, skipper Lambertz finishing a strong run with a pass to Harnik, who netted coolly to seal the win. Bitroff had the ball in the net again for Energie following a corner in added time, but the referee chalked it off for a foul.
Line-ups
Düsseldorf: Ratajczak - Weber, Anderson (Sieger 24'), Langeneke, J. van den Bergh - Costa - Lambertz, Christ (Zoundi 61'), O. Fink - Harnik (Gaus 90'+1), Jovanovic
Cottbus: Tremmel - Straith, Brzenska, Mitreski , Bittroff - Kruska , Burca (Petersen 89'), Dum - Rivic (Shao 75') - Jula, Radu (Kweuke 75')
Attendance: 20,100
Rot Weiss Ahlen - SC Paderborn07 0-0
No goals and a share of the points with which Paderborn will likely have been the more satisfied come the final whistle. After a fairly even first half, with both sides carving out a couple of decent chances, Ahlen seized the initiative against an increasingly defensive guest outfit after the break.
All their efforts would come to nought however, summed up by Thomas Bröker's 87th-minute shot from inside the box which beat Paderborn keeper Masuch, only to hit the bar and rebound to safety.
Line-ups
Ahlen: Kirschstein - Wiemann, di Gregorio, Kittner , Pelzer - Gorschlüter - Özkara , Book , Reichwein - Toborg, Bröker
Paderborn: Masuch - Gonther, Strohdiek, S. Halfar, Schachten - Krösche - Wemmer, Alushi , Brückner - Saglik, Manno
Attendance: 5, 245
