Tranquillo Barnetta (r.) has racked up 135 appearances for Bayer to date
Barnetta staying put at Bayer
Midfielder Tranquillo Barnetta has put pen to paper on a two-year extension to his contract at Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

The Swiss international's new deal runs through to the summer of 2012.

Heynckes: "Good move by the club"

"I'm glad that Tranquillo's extended. He's a good character, but on top of that, a team needs players in the mould of Barnetta, or Renato Augusto, who can create one-on-one situations for you", Bayer coach Jupp Heynckes commented.

"Tranquillo is a real team player too and if he'd gone, the side would have been like a mosaic with a piece missing. It was another good move by the club", Heynckes added.

Since joining Bayer from Hannover 96 in 2006, Barnetta has turned out at least 30 times each season for them in the Bundesliga.
