Greek international Amanatidis will be unavailable for a while
Knee surgery for Amanatidis
Eintracht Frankfurt's striker Ioannis Amanatidis will undergo surgery on his right knee next Monday. The Greek international proved to be Frankfurt's most threatening player in recent years and has scored three goals in eight Bundesliga matches this season.
It is not surprising therefore that this is a heavy blow to coach Michael Skibbe, who has already informed the club's board that they need to scan the market for a new striker just in case Amanatidis should not be fit for the second half of the season.
Cartilage instability
Amanatidis already had surgery done on his knee last year, but apparently the healing process did not go as planned. "We suspect that there is some instability in the cartilage area," Eintracht's team doctor Dr. Christoph Seeger said.
The doctors cannot predict for how long Amanatidis will be unavailable, but he is certain to miss Greece's FIFA World Cup play-off-match against the Ukraine next week.
