Robben (l.) vs. Ribery (r.). Now they feature in the same team.
Bayern sign Robben
After completing the medical, the 25-year-old Dutch winger was officially presented to the media at the Säbener Street on Friday morning. He will be wearing the kit with the number 10, last worn by his fellow countrymen Roy Makaay. Real Madrid and FC Bayern have agreed to keep the transfer fee undisclosed.
The Dutch ace has signed a four year contract with the German record-holders and is an option for Bundesliga's top-clash on Saturday with Wolfsburg. "It all happened very fast. There were a couple of things I wanted to think over, but in the end I decided I really wanted to move to a huge club like Bayern," Robben explained.
FCB captain Mark van Bommel sees Robben "in the same class as Franck Ribery" and expects him to boost the Bavarians offence greatly. Van Bommel already played with Robben at PSV Eindhoven for two years and they experienced successful times together.
Great experience at young age
Robben made his professional debut appearance at the age of 16 with Dutch club FC Groningen. He then switched clubs inside the Eredivisie to PSV Eindhoven, before linking up with Premier League side Chelsea FC. In 2007, the Dutch international moved to Real Madrid netting eleven goals in 49 appearances. With just 25 years of age and 43 national team appearances, Robben has gatherered a great amount of experience at a very young age.
"Right from the start, Bayern gave me a very good feeling, and I feel very welcome here. This is a massive club with a glorious history, and I m delighted to be here now," said Robben. FCB general manager Uli Hoeness is delighted about the arrival of Robben: "He is one of the best offensive midfield players in Europe. He was always on top of our list."
"Ribery on the left, Robben on the right
With this new signing in the books, all discussions concerning what system Louis van Gaal and Bayern will play this season appear to have vanished: "Our intention is to field Ribery on the left wing and Robben on the right," explained Hoeneß.
Just recently, FCB head coach van Gaal had complained that he did not have enough influence in Bayern's transfer actions this summer. With Arjen Robben, he receives a highly qualified football player and another great addition for his offensive line.
