Bundesliga strikes deal with ESPN for UK rights
DFL Sports Enterprises has sold the German Bundesliga TV rights for UK and Ireland to ESPN. Over the following three seasons (2009/10 to 2011/12) Disney's international sports channel will broadcast up to five matches per week, including a selection of HD matches, plus weekly preview and highlight packages.

In addition to the multiyear deal with the Bundesliga, ESPN has also acquired rights to the English Premier League and other European leagues. All parties have agreed to treat the license fees confidentially.

"Excellent kick off"

"This deal rounds off the Bundesliga's TV presence in all relevant markets worldwide and is an excellent kick off to the start of the new season," says Dr. Robert Niemann, CEO of DFL Sports Enterprises.

"We are delighted to extend to our partnership with ESPN after recently closing a deal with the network for the Brazilian market. With ESPN's acquisition of the UK and Ireland rights the German Bundesliga is expanding its presence in the home of football," says Jörg Daubitzer, COO of DFL Sports Enterprises.
