Theofanis Gekas celebrates his opener
Bochum leave drop zone
VfL Bochum will celebrate Christmas in style after the promoted club left the drop zone with a home win over Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Bochum's hero was Theofanis Gekas.
The Greek gave Bochum the lead in first half injury time with a beautiful lob from 20 yards, his seventh goal of the season.
Kahe own goal
He also had a hand in the second goal when Gladbach's Kahe put through his own net five minutes from time.
It was a deserved win for Bochum, who dominated large parts of the match after a shaky start.
Comeback for Neuville
Bochum head coach Marcel Koller had fielded an unchanged eleven, while Gladbach head coach Jupp Heynckes made four changes to the team that drew 1-1 with Mainz last weekend.
Borussia's German international Oliver Neuville made his comeback from injury as a second-half substitute.
